Drug use, particularly vaping or smoking marijuana, is a prevalent issue among high schoolers. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) states that 23.2 percent of 12th graders had vaped nicotine in the past year, and 29 percent of 12th graders had reported using cannabis in the past year, according to the 2023 NIDA Monitoring the Future annual survey. While drug use among teens is not rising dramatically, the dangers of doing so have. With deadly synthetic drugs like fentanyl contaminating drug supplies, drug use in teens has been more dangerous than ever before.

On Feb. 29, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) baseball team, boys’ volleyball team and girls’ beach volleyball team faced opponents from St. Bonaventure, Oak Park and Fillmore. Beach volleyball and boys’ indoor volleyball secured a win, while boys’ baseball was forced to end in a tie.
On Feb. 29, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) baseball team played in their seventh game of the season against St. Bonaventure (St. Bonnie). The Dragons tied 5-5 after nine innings. Adam Arth ‘24 (number 8), hit a home run and celebrated it with his team at the bottom of the first inning.

Will Haas ‘24 (number 6) receives a high set but is luckily able to jump high enough to reach the top of the spinning ball tipping it to the right. The ball flies pass Fillmore High Schools middle blocker and falls at the feet of Fillmores outside hitter.
Boys' volleyball takes an early season 3-0 sweep against Fillmore
On Feb. 29, 2024 Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls’ beach volleyball team faced off against Oak Hill High School (Oak Hill) and gained a successful win with a final score of 6-0. The Dragons started off their season with an undefeated six game winning streak. Morgan Houston ‘25 (number 2) leaps up, and spikes the ball over the net, contributing to the Dragons’ win.

In a close game against Bishop Diego High School (Bishop Diego) on Feb. 27, 2024, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) suffered an unfortunate loss. Fans were on the edges of their seat as Foothill Tech fiercely battled every second of the game.

On the night of April 12, 2023, the Dragons honored their senior players while hosting the Laguna Blanca School. Hoping to secure a win on Senior Night and end their league losing streak, the Dragons played hard, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to beat the Laguna Blanca Owls.

Tyler Jorden 23 (number 10) serves the ball to St. Bonaventure. He played extremely energetically and contributed a large amount of points to the final score. The Dragons were slain in the fifth set, 15-10. This loss drops them down to second place in the Tri-Valley League.

After getting an amazing set from his teammate, James Sokoloski 24 (number 2) elevates and proceeds to spike the ball in hopes of getting it past the hands of a defender. Sokoloski 24 finished with nine kills and was recognized as the second leading scorer in this league match against Cate School.

The Foothill Technology girls took on St. Margaret’s for the second round of CIF. The girls fought hard but came up short. Emily Drucker ’26 (number 4) sets for her teammate Jaelisa Lozano Rivera 26’ (number 18) who hit it over the net and gave the Dragons the lead in the match.
