On March 26, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls beach volleyball team faced Thacher School (Thacher) on the Portside beach volleyball courts. This game was special as it was the Dragons’ senior night, celebrating with heartfelt speeches from fellow teammates to their seniors. Foothill Tech came out victorious with a 5-0 sweep against Thacher.
“Even though they weren’t the best team, we still did not drop down to their level of play, which has been kinda a struggle for us,” Mazzlyn Herbert ‘28 said.
The match started with senior Emily Turner ‘26 and Grace Canavan ‘29 winning the first point for the Dragons. The pair breezed through winning their sets 21-10 and 21-4.
With strong sets and kills from both players, seniors Lilac Reyes ‘26 and Sam Jacobson ‘26 won both of their sets easily. They secured the second point for the Dragons with scores of 21-3 and 21-5.
Seniors Jaelisa Lozano-Rivera ‘26 and Rylie Hannah ‘26 had easy wins for their senior night. With consistent, strong serves that made it tough for Thacher to receive, the pair dominated 21-2 and 21-3, collecting a point to contribute to the victory.

“We both went on a lot of serving runs, and I’m proud of the skill we showed by serving so many times in a row,” Hannah said.
Fiona Holt ‘28 and Sydney Friedl ‘28 dominated their first set, winning 21-4. The pair did not let up, winning their second set 21-5. This added yet another point to Foothill Tech’s victory.
The final match was played by juniors Peyton Fox ‘27 and Makayla Harris ‘27. The pair was able to finish off the sweep, winning their two sets, 21-5 and 21-7. Although the competition wasn’t the hardest, all the pairs were able to stay consistent and focused while playing their games, and didn’t drop down to the opponent’s level.
After the match, Hannah spoke about what the senior night meant for her.
“I was happy to have lots of my family come to see me play for senior night. They’ve all watched me play volleyball for almost 7 years, so seeing them at my last senior night was very heartening,” Hannah said.
Overall, with hard-fought games, the Dragons were able to secure the 5-0 win over Thacher. Foothill Tech will face Oak Park High School on April 9 for their next matchup.
