On the afternoon of March 4, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls beach volleyball team took on the Dunn School (Dunn). The Dragons had few problems sweeping aside Dunn and securing a shutout 5-0 victory in their first league matchup of the season.
The first matchup of the day paired Grace Canavan ‘29 alongside Sam Jacobson ‘26. After struggling initially against the Dunn pair, they secured a first-set win 21-15. Coming back in the second set, the pair found their groove and breezed to a 21-7 victory to give Foothill Tech the lead 1-0.
The second matchup matched Emily Turner ‘26 and Fiona Holt ‘28 against the second Dunn pair. Unable to find their rhythm, they suffered a defeat to Dunn 17-21 in the first set. After taking time to restrategize, they defeated Dunn 21-9. Turner and Holt took victory in the deciding set to extend the Dragons’ lead 2-0 after a win of 15-7.

“We all played super well today, and it was super cool for us and the rest of the team to be given the opportunity to show off all the different combinations and running certain sets. It was a huge learning experience and was a great game for everybody,” said Emme Capra ‘28
The third game of the day for the Dragons matched up Jaelisa Lozano-Rivera ‘26 and Lilac Reyes ‘26 against Dunn’s third pairing. Lozano-Rivera and Reyes breezed through the Dunn opposition in the first set, 21-8. In the second set, changes in strategy from Dunn resulted in a closer score, but the Dragon pair held out to win 21-16 and secured Foothill Tech’s third point of the afternoon.
Peyton Fox ‘27 and Sydney Friedl ‘26 dominated offensively and defensively, winning both sets by huge margins, 21-12 and 21-8.
Finally, in the fifth and final game of the day, Capra and Mazzy Herbert ‘28 won both sets decisively, 21-7 and 21-5, in the most dominant performance of the day from the Dragons.
“It was a really fun game to play… my teammate and I both had really long serving streaks that definitely helped us to get both of those blowout [set] wins,” Emme Capra ‘28 said.
Coming off a crucial shutout win in their first league game of the year, the girls volleyball team looks to grab another win for their record on Mar. 9 at Laguna Blanca School (Laguna).
