On the breezy afternoon of April 29,  the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) baseball team took to their home field to face off against their cross-town rivals, Saint Bonaventure High School (Bonnie). The game favored the Dragons in the early innings, but they unfortunately couldn’t hold off the Seraphs, who ran away with the game 14-9.

The opening innings saw Foothill Tech establish an early lead, with Robert Juker ‘26 dropping a ball deep into the outfield that allowed him to secure a double, and later put up the first point of the game, 1-0, Dragons.

The second inning went scoreless for both teams, but the momentum quickly shifted in the third. Foothill Tech saw four runners cross the plate to widen their lead further to 5-0. Both Juker and Shane White ‘26 each sent a ball over the fence for home runs.

“The energy was high, we were really determined to get the win. We came in hot, everyone was working hard and hitting well in the beginning, they just out swung us and strung together better hits at the end of the day,” said Juker, commenting on the atmosphere of the game and overall attitude of the team.

Moving into the fourth, after being held scoreless through the first three innings, the Seraphs broke out for seven runs over the Dragons’ best efforts on defense. Foothill Tech did their best to respond during the bottom half but was met with little success, closing out the inning 6-7.

The Fifth inning saw more strong batting coming from Bonnie, continuing their momentum from the previous inning. They secured an additional four runners across home and managed to hold Foothill Tech scoreless, 11-6.

“I think we had good energy, we came in and played well. All in all we just got caught a little behind. The defense came through hot … we definitely fell through in certain areas but we just have to keep working,” added Grant Ready ‘26.

Going into the sixth inning, the Dragons did their best to prevent Bonnie from furthering their lead and did what they could to keep them within range of a comeback. However, they’d make little progress despite Jacory Smith ‘27 sending a homer deep into right field for Foothill Tech.

The final inning concluded scoreless, ending the game and securing the win for the Seraphs 14-9.
