On the night of April 13, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys volleyball team hosted Laguna Blanca (Laguna) on its home court. The team celebrated their two seniors, Curren Wiggins ‘26 and Kaedon Charanvattanakit ‘26, with a 3-0 senior night sweep.
After speeches and photos for the two seniors, Laguna started with the serve and took a quick 0-3 lead on the Dragons. A set by Royal Knox ‘28 and a kill by Styles Haley Kettler ‘28 quickly shifted the momentum for the Dragons, and they were able to collect two more kills to bring the score to 4-4. With errors and missed serves from both teams, the score was at 9-12 when Foothill Tech called a timeout. Shortly after Wiggins and Sawyer Donaldson ‘27 had a block, followed by a kill from Donaldson to bring the score to 13-13.

A pass by Charanvattanakit, an assist by Knox and a kill by Haley Kettler created a huge shift for the Dragons as it gave them energy and kept them tied at 16-16. Laguna, after a couple of errors, gave the Dragons the lead. Sebastian Saucedo ‘29 smashed the ball for a kill to end the set with a 25-23 win.
“I felt that was our best display of how we can face adversity. We definitely had a lot of hitting errors. We just had a hard time keeping it in the court, but we rallied.” Wiggins said.
The set started with Charanvattanakit, serving for Foothill Tech. The Dragons were able to get the first point in the set. However, Laguna held a consistent two-point lead over the Dragons throughout the first half of the set. Coming off a timeout, the Dragons were still down with a score of 16-19. Both Wiggins and Haley Kettler had kills to bring the Dragons back up to a 21-20 lead towards the end of the set. Laguna was at match point 23-24 when Haley Kettler had a crucial kill to tie the game and keep the Dragons in range. Both teams fought it out, going back and forth until Colton Salles ‘27 stepped up and had a kill to secure a 28-26 victory for the Dragons.

To start the final set, Laguna had the serve and quickly gained a 0-3 lead. The Dragons battled with a kill to put their first point on the board, followed by two errors from Laguna, closing the gap for the Dragons, 3-4. Two aces by Haley Kettler advanced the Dragons to a 7-6 lead, added to by Saucedo, who obtained a kill. Throughout the set, the Dragons quickly gained the lead and kept it. To close out the set, Haley Kettler had a backrow kill, and Wiggins had another kill to bring the Dragons to a 25-14 victory, ultimately ending the game 3-0.
The Dragons will compete in their next match on April 16 against Laguna Blanca.
