The 2024 to 2025 season for the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys' basketball team went extremely, with a record of 7-2 in the Tri-Valley League, placing them at 2nd overall. For the general season, the Dragons achieved a record of 16-15, which allowed them to advance to the California Scholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Championship game, which they unfortunately lost to La Puente High School (La Puente) 70-63. Despite the loss, the Dragons still displayed incredible talent and effort throughout the 2024 to 2025 season.

The Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) softball team finished their 2024 to 2025 season with a Tri-Valley League record of 1-7, placing them at 5th. Their overall record ended up being 8-9. Despite hardships throughout the Dragons were able to end their season on a high note, beating Nordhoff High School (Nordhoff) handily, with a final score of 7-0, highlighting Foothill Tech's commitment and dedication to the sport. *note this is from last season*

What better way to bring a community together than fun colors, painted patterns, and books? Ever since their creation in 2009, “Little Free Libraries,” more commonly known as “Book Boxes” have brightened neighborhoods from coast to coast. Located outside of the Ventura Salvation Army sits three book boxes, overflowing with a wide variety of novels, children's books, and even comics; something for every type of reader. Recently, there were signs attached to each box with the words "We need more books!" and within days, these boxes were once again filled to the brim with community donated literature.

After a strong performance in the preliminary meet, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) swim team arrived at the Ventura Aquatic Center on May 2, 2025 determined to succeed. Pictured, Larissa Myers ‘26 races the 50 yard freestyle event finishing with a time of 27.04, which ultimately placed her fourth in the championship heat. Myers would go onto race in the 200 yard freestyle relay along with the 400 yard freestyle relay where she and her teammates placed second for both events and potentially qualified for California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Prelims.

In the evening of April 10, 2025, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) Dragons traveled to Carpinteria, Calif. to face off against the Cate School (Cate) Rams. After losing 1-3 the last time these two teams matched up, the Dragons were determined to win. After three intense sets, Foothill Tech swept Cate and emerged victorious, 3-0.

Following a narrow loss to Ventura High School, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys volleyball team was fired up and ready to face Dunn School (Dunn) on April 1, 2025. Through their teamwork and strong offense, they emerged victorious, 3-0. As his teammates watch from the bench, Elijah Haigh '25 (number 15) gets ready to serve the ball to the other side, to hopefully get yet another ace. Haigh's powerful swing came in handy not just for his serves, but also for his hitting, as he got many kills from the opposite hitting position.

With a win against Santa Clara on Friday Dec. 6, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys basketball team traveled to Buena High School to battle the Bulldogs in a nail-biting game. Although the Dragons were up by three at halftime, the Bulldogs fought back and won, with the final score of 54-61. Pictured, Ashton Brown '26 (number 11), takes the ball down the court using his handles to out-maneuver his defender. Brown was one of the key components of the game from his efforts on offense, ranging from three-pointers to ball movement, to his intense defense that resulted in multiple blocks and steals.

Coming into the game with the record of 1-6 and the desire to win, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys basketball team faced off against Santa Clara High School. The Dragons worked together cohesively to secure a 53-44 win against their opponents. Pictured above, Nick Turner ‘26 (number 5) drives down the court with the intention of scoring a basket. Although his defender was able to catch up, Turner, unrelenting, goes up for the layup as his defender flies by.

After a long, hard-fought season, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) celebrates the seniors on the girls volleyball and girls tennis teams. With a win against Carpinteria High School on Oct. 9, 2024, the girls volleyball team emerged victorious on their Senior Night. Girls tennis, although ending in a loss, still honored their seniors and played their hardest on Oct. 15, 2024.

After an intense campaign period, the nine different presidential candidates in all three of Richard Geib's Advanced Placement United States Government and Politics (AP Gov) classes, were slowly wittled down to the winners in each period. In period one, Maxwell Fielder '25 won as the new Republican President. Huzaifah Rangwala '25 and the green party emerged victorious in period four. Finally, in period five, Democratic candidate, Lila Rosenthal '25 secured the majority vote.

Since the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, students in Richard Geib's Advanced Placement Government and Politics (AP Gov) class have been preparing for the annual mock elections. Simulating the real election process, three candidates from each period run for the Republican, Democratic and Green Party respectively, vying to see who will be victorious and win the vote of the people.

Representing the ability to grow from one's circumstances, the flowers serve as a symbol of Lily Bloom's, the protagonist of the story, strength admist her abusive circumstances.

In the afternoon of June 11, 2024, seniors of Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) and their family and friends gathered together on the Ventura College football field to celebrate one of the most momentous occasions for each senior: graduation. Pictured above, Sarah O'Neil '24 waves at her family and friends in the audience after making the long anticipated trek across the stage to receive her diploma. Decorated with scads of chords to celebrate her high school achievements, O'Neil plans to continue achieving her dreams by attending California State University, Chico in the fall.

In the past few years, rather than opting for more traditional ways to get around town, pre-teens and teenagers around Ventura, Calif. have chosen electronic bikes (e-bikes) as their preferred mode of transportation. To keep up with the growing population of Ventura, Calif., the Ventura City Council voted in favor of expanding paid parking in the downtown area. As of May 1, 2024, many of the currently free parking places, including the parking structure on Santa Clara St., will cost $1.25 an hour.

From distance races to 100 meter dashes to hurdles, the Dragon competitors gave it their all as they completed against teams from all over the county.

In the aftermath of COVID-19 and the lockdowns that followed, schools struggled to get into the swing of things and return to a new sense of normalcy. This was seen directly with the graduation rates across the nation, and more closely across the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD). Of the class of 2023 in VUSD, 87.1% of students graduated, and here at Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech), 94.5%, which was lower than the graduation rates previous to the shutdown. That being said, the graduation rates are continuing to grow, leaving hope for the future.

With an emphasis on connection, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) had its annual Kindness Week spanning from Feb. 12 to Feb. 15. Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls waterpolo matched up against Villanova Preparatory School (Villanova) in a highly anticipated match to honor their seniors. Foothill Tech started off strong by winning the initial sprint to the ball, followed by immediate goals from Lauren Happle ‘26 and Alice Costa-Schmidt ‘25. That intensity was continued throughout the whole game as Foothill Tech finished with a winning score of 21-7.

Continuing their annual tradition, Food Share of Ventura County organized their holiday can-tree drive to support the struggling members of the community. Joining together to make a difference, members of the Ventura community gather in front of the Ventura Mission downtown to build can trees out of hundreds of donated cans. With free creative liberty, organizations from all over the city decorated their trees with different fun themes. All of the cans used for the trees were then donated to Food Share and distributed to over 267,000 Ventura County residents who are in need of extra food during the holiday season.

Released on Sept. 29, 2023, "Autumn Variations" is Ed Sheeran's newest album that is perfect for the fall season. With a combination of upbeat love songs and slower more serious songs, it provides a refreshing balance of the different emotions one might experience while going through life. Sheeran tackles some of the most difficult aspects of growing up in an album that, while sharing certain similarities to his earlier songs, is very mundane and different than his previous music.

In the morning of Sept. 23, 2023, members of the Ventura County Community gathered together at the Collection in Oxnard, Calif. to celebrate and support those with Alzheimer's and other dementia. Hosted by the Alzheimer's Association, the Walk to End Alzheimer's event was a huge success raising over $107,000 towards ending Alzheimer's, along with connecting the community.

Maddie Wicks ‘26 tees it up with hopes of sticking it close to pin and hopefully having a birdie opportunity. Wicks finished hole six with a double bogey and finished the entire course with a 56.

On the evening of Sept. 6, 2023, Counting Crows performed the 46th show in their Banshee Season Tour at the Youtube Theater. The audience was full of people both young and old — the original fans and newer ones — with the shared love of the iconic '90s band. Voices sang along as the band put together the perfect set list with some of their well-known songs and a few hidden gems, along with mixing in covers of other artists such as Taylor Swift.

In honor of the first day of school, going along with the theme of Lights, Camera, Action, Foothill Tech’s Associated Student Body (ASB) decorated the entire campus with various “Back to the Future” decor along with bright, festive streamers and balloons. They had name tags for each student written on gold stars arranged in the number corresponding to the grade of students. It was a fun way to kick off the start of the year and welcome students back to school.
