Tennis player Jaylene Aguirre ‘28 was recognized for her capabilities on the tennis court and has continued to progress this season. Aguirre, in her second year on the varsity tennis team at Foothill Technology High School, has been a top performer as she has gone 16-1 in matches this season following her freshman season, which ended 13-17. Aguirre and teammate Saanvi Joshi ‘26 are the number one and two seeds in the division, giving hope for California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs this season.
Aguirre has been playing tennis for 10 years now, as she began playing as a kid, and continuously works outside of school hours with two separate coaches working hard to be the best player possible for both herself and her family.

Aguirre looks up to tennis player Serena Williams. Aguirre has been watching Williams since she was young and is inspired by how strong she is both mentally and physically. Aguirre plans to play tennis in college and hopes to get an offer; she believes that with her work ethic and commitment to the sport, she can succeed in her dreams.
“I was just really drawn to tennis when I was younger. I thought it was cool and I feel like tennis was a sport for me,” said Aguirre.
As an underclassman, Aguirre still has two years left to improve. Aguirre plans to use this time to focus on helping her team to many victories in the future. Aguirre plays singles but states that her team comes together to build a really fun and strong team.
“It’s really fun once you all get along and once you start getting to know each other. But with singles, me, Bari and Saanvi, we’re all just connecting away, and then the doubles, they all connected in their way and as a team, we all come together to work hard and be able to win,” said Aguirre.
Aguirre believes her approach to a game and mindset is what has guided her to such success; the key is a positive attitude. When Aguirre is playing, her motto is to simplify the game; just hit the ball over and let her opponents make the mistakes. Tennis has taught Aguirre to never give up in life and to always stay positive through rough times.
Aguirre’s teammates view her as a fun and uplifting person. She is somebody who isn’t selfish and thinks about her fellow teammates.
“Jaylene’s a really hard-working person, and she’s not just for herself; she’s for her team, and I feel like she’s the type of person to uplift others when she’s down. She just doesn’t like any negative energy because she knows it impacts the team,” said teammate of Aguirre, Liliana Gonzalez ‘28.
Aguirre, with no doubt, will continue to make a mark on Foothill Tech’s courts in upcoming seasons.
