As all five winter sports seasons slowly wind down, each team planned a game to honor and commemorate their senior athletes for their hard work and dedication to the program. Each Senior Night was unique but shared the common thread of celebration. Follow along for some comprehensive coverage of the conclusion of the boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball seasons, along with girls water polo.

Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) winter sports teams recently held multiple Senior Nights as the winter sports season is coming to a close. As multiple teams continue the fight to CIF (California Interscholastic Federation), they invite parents and fans to celebrate seniors in their league match-ups. Boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball and girls’ water polo all emerged victorious against their opponents. Girls' soccer triumphs over Thacher on Senior Night
On Feb. 2, 2024, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) faced Grace Brethren High School (Grace Brethren) in a highly anticipated game celebrating the nine seniors on the team. Winning with a forfeit in the last 15 minutes from Grace Brethren, the Dragons scored 11 goals. Matheus Gamble 24 (number 10), the leading scorer of the game, had four goals. Merric Bayless 24 (number 9) scored three goals. Ricky Salinas ‘24 (number 30), Adam Al Warhani 24 (number 1), Nico Flores 24 (number 15) and Amar Atiah 26 (number 20) each scored one goal.
Boys' soccer forces Grace Brethren into forfeit on Senior Night
Celebrating the teams seniors, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys’ basketball team faced off against Villanova Preparatory School (Villanova) on Feb. 2, 2024. The night started with a recognition of the two seniors on the team, John Cassidy ‘24 (number 14) and Daniel Ferrer ‘24 (number 2), then proceeded to the game. The Dragons took the win at the end of the night with a final score of 48-26.

Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls waterpolo matched up against Villanova Preparatory School (Villanova) in a highly anticipated match to honor their seniors. Foothill Tech started off strong by winning the initial sprint to the ball, followed by immediate goals from Lauren Happle ‘26 and Alice Costa-Schmidt ‘25. That intensity was continued throughout the whole game as Foothill Tech finished with a winning score of 21-7.
Girls' water polo dominates Villanova on Senior Night 21-7
To commemorate their seniors, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls’ basketball secured another league victory against Cate High School (Cate) in their last home game of the season on Jan. 25, 2024. Adding to the win, it was also the team’s Senior Night, where they honored their seniors with speeches, flowers and balloons.

On the rainy night of Jan. 17, 2024, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys basketball takes on Grace Brethren High School (Grace Brethren) in a defensive 54-43 win. The top scorers of the game were two sophomores, Nick Drucker 26 (number 5) and Elijah Spencer 26 (number 42). Drucker had 16 points, three of which were 3-pointers. Spencer had 10 points, most of which were scored from the paint. On the defensive side, Luigirey Guce 25 (number 1) had multiple steals, leading to fast breaks that got the Dragons easy lay-ups. Although they scored only 21 points in the first half, Foothill Tech pushed past their slow start, ending the game with 22 points in the fourth quarter. Their next game is on Jan. 19, 2024, against Villanova Preparatory High School (Villanova).

On the chilly night of Jan. 10, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys basketball team started the new year strong, winning their first league game against the Thacher School (Thacher). Foothill Tech huddles up at the end of the first quarter with a quick motivational talk from their head coach Jamaal Brown. They lead the first quarter with a score of 11-10.

On Dec. 18, 2023, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys’ basketball team faced a tough loss against Newbury Park High School (Newbury) in a non-league game with a score of 39-50.

The Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys soccer team’s run for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division Five championship was put to an end on the night of Feb. 16, 2024, at the semifinal game that took place at Ventura High Schools (Ventura) Larrabee Stadium.

On Feb. 8, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls’ basketball team took to the court in the first round of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section. The Dragons won against Crossroads High School (Crossroads) with a score of 36-32. Good defense was displayed by Olivia Mowad ‘24 (number 32), Petra Falcocchia ‘24 (number 23), Lauren Kaller ‘25 (number 0) and Kiara Zavala ‘26 (number 5). Although the score was tight, the team handled the pressure well and will now move onto the next round of CIF.
