On Wednesday, the boys’ water polo team played Cate School at its third home game of the season. Cate defeated the Dragons with a final score of 9-11. Foothill now has an overall record of three wins, 13 losses and a league record of one win, three losses.
Junior Evan Somma was Foothill’s lead scorer with five goals. Juniors Kevin Waechter and Parker Harris, and sophomores Andres Coppa and Nico Parker each scored one goal.
Coach David Wallace believes that the team “played very well for the first three quarters.”
“The second quarter we settled down and played our game,” he said. “We attacked the defense with confidence and played steady defense.”
“Evan Somma played a good game on both sides of the ball,” Wallace said.
Wallace also noticed that the team still needs to improve on playing under pressure.
“We need to handle the pressure of a close game better,” he said. “We need to play the entire game relaxed and confident.”
Wallace looks forward to playing Carpinteria High School on Friday, Oct. 16, at the Ventura Aquatics Center.
“[Carpinteria is] playing very good [water] polo and we will need to play confident and smart.”
