Jim Bern: Midterms Volume II

It’s been a while. Special relativity was more or less understood. Circuits were built. Kanye West was listened to. Midterms happened again. And I passed, so that’s always good. We’ve got a formal dinner tonight, so I get to wear a suit and eat “petite filet with buttered lobster claw smashed pink fur potatoes and asparagus.” College does in fact have its perks.

I applied to be a summer intern at Hasbro, but I’m still waiting for them to get back to me. Despite my complete lack of qualifications, I like to think of myself as employable.

Anyway, on to actually important things:

Best Friends Eating Food Forever: Episode Two.

In which surprisingly little changes:

We rejoin our heroes on the roof of Denny’s. The narrator was still inside–working on his pancakes–but everyone important at least, was on the roof.

The protagonist was looking up at the sky. The clouds looked like pancakes. The rising sun might have looked like syrup. The world felt all at once like a giant plate, upon which they were to live, dance, exist. The protagonist loved Denny’s. He felt that maybe the answer had been inside him the entire time. Maybe their search had been over before it had even really begun.

“It’s pancakes!–” he declared, “I’m pretty sure that the answer we’ve been searching for is pancakes!”

Kanye West aimlessly kicked a single shingle off of the roof, and watched as it shattered on the pavement.

If we had room for another character, the manager probably would have disapproved.

As it was however, the narrator paused only looked up from his plate for the briefest of moments.

There were pancakes to eat.
