Wicked: For Good
Social media buzzed as posters, trailers, teasers and billboards flashed the long-awaited sequel to the award-winning musical, “Wicked.” Within just 24 hours of this movie trailer’s release, a shocking 113 million views were reached, revealing a story that did not disappoint.
After “Wicked: For Good” was released in theaters on Nov. 21, 2025, fans all around the world were amazed as the dazzling musical numbers and outstanding acting filled the theaters, with the iconic duo Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo returning to the screen.
Revisiting the world of Oz, this film adds to the drama, romance and suspense, shifting away from the whimsical, warm feelings into a darker and more serious tone. The musical numbers and visuals, however, were just as breathtaking, with many viewers replaying the soundtrack nonstop throughout their daily lives.
The year’s development proved its worth, as the movie earned six awards and garnered 48 more nominations within less than a month of its debut. The film draws viewers in immediately, prompting fans to rewatch it multiple times, discovering a new and exciting detail with each viewing.

Bugonia
Described as a black comedy from surrealist director Yorgos Lanthimos, “Bugonia” was released in theaters on Oct. 31, 2025. The film features Emma Stone, an actress Lanthimos has worked closely with on previous films like “Poor Things,” “Kinds of Kindness” and “The Favourite.”
A remake of a 2003 Korean film titled “Save the Green Planet!,” the movie follows the conspiracy of Teddy (Jesse Plemons) and Don (Aidan Delbis), who kidnap Stone’s character, a female CEO of a pharmaceutical company, believing she is an alien plotting to dominate the world.
“Bugonia” garnered critical acclaim and secured Golden Globe nominations for Stone’s and Plemons’ performances. Despite its limited cast and set, with a majority of the scenes taking place between two or three characters in a single house, the film offers a captivating story and melodramatic sweeping score that leaves audiences asking, “What?”

Sinners
Released on April 18, 2025, Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” was released across theaters worldwide. The film was a box office hit, grossing more than $367 million globally.
The story follows twin brothers, Smoke and Stack Moore (Michael B. Jordan). After spending time working for the mob in Chicago, Ill., they moved to Clarksdale, Miss., to turn an abandoned sawmill into a juke joint. Though they are determined to start fresh, the brothers face vampires who attack their community at the juke joint. Symbolic of systemic racism, black oppression, cultural trauma and colonialism, the vampire coven — led by a vampire named Remmick (Jack O’Connell) — attempts to turn the trapped community into one of their own.
Often described as a “horror-musical,” “Sinners” has a rich, dark and emotionally heavy soundtrack. Blending blues, folk, R&B, gospel and Irish folk, the soundtrack enhances the overall darkness of the movie and its harrowing themes. A spooky, riveting movie for older audiences, “Sinners” undoubtedly serves as one of 2025’s most notable movies.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Released Dec. 5, 2025, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” arrived with an abundance of excitement from passionate fans. The sequel dives deeper into the origins and complexities of the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe. Within two weeks of its release, the film became a box office success, grossing an estimated $170 million to $180 million worldwide.
After a long year of recovery from his past experiences, Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) believes he is finally safe from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. That is, until his younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), goes off by herself to alleviate the constant curiosity she feels towards the ominous animatronics. Throughout the film, Abby’s desire to reconnect with her robot friends sets off a nightmare for both herself and Mike.

Kpop Demon Hunters
On June 20, 2025, “Kpop Demon Hunters,” directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, was released, quickly gaining popularity. The film’s overnight success placed it on Netflix’s top 10. Eventually, the movie reached over 325 million views , making it the most-watched movie on Netflix.
The soundtrack was also a major success and another reason why the movie performed so well. It was No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and the single “Golden” surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The story follows a K-pop girl group called Huntrix, featuring Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). While on the surface they are famous idols, the group secretly lives as demon hunters. For generations, hunters have used their voices as power to keep the Honmoon, which is the barrier that protects humans from the demon king and his demon boy band, the Saja boys.
“Kpop Demon Hunters” was heavily inspired by Korean Shamanism, a traditional polytheistic belief system centered around the ideology that spirits influence the human world.
