On Tuesday, Foothill’s varsity girls’ soccer team beat Carpinteria High School on Carpinteria’s field with a score of 3-1.

Freshman Olivia Morales scored the first goal ten minutes into the game and junior Nicole Napoli scored the second 20 minutes later; freshman Gwynnie Redemann assisted both of these goals. Foothill ended the first half with a lead of 2-0.

Morales scored the third and final goal in the final minute of the game, assisted for the second time by Redemann.

Coach Analiese White said that the team is learning to “play as a unit.”

“They are communicating more, passing better, and using their tactical abilities to maintain possession of the ball,” White said.

White also said that senior Josselyn Pereda helped the team greatly and “served as a great leader on the field.”

Although White believes that the girls still need to work on transitioning from offense to defense faster, she is very proud of their progress and is “excited to see them improve over the season.”

The girls will be playing their first home game of the season on Thursday Jan. 8 against Fillmore at Ventura College.
