On the cool evening of Jan. 8, 2026, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls soccer team stepped up to their home pitch to take on Saint Bonaventure High School (Bonnie) at the Ventura College Athletic Event Center. The matchup proved to be a challenge for the Dragons, getting nudged out of a victory by the Seraphs 0-1.
The clash also marked the Dragons’ third league game of the season, dropping their record to 0-3 in the Tri-Valley Southern Section and 1-6 overall. Foothill Tech currently sits fifth out of six teams within the league.
The game began with the Dragons securing first possession, which was utilized effectively to dictate the tempo of the match in the opening minutes. However, the Seraphs wouldn’t afford Foothill Tech much room to string together plays as they maintained consistent defensive pressure throughout the half.

With attempts to advance the ball from both teams being met with little success, most of the early exchanges and possession swaps unfolded in the midfield. Shea Stevenson ‘26 attempted a few successful drives into Bonnies’ goal area, but unfortunately couldn’t connect with the back of the net.
Siena Meter ‘26 said, “Our team energy was definitely hype leading up to the game in the locker room and during warmup, but of course, when heading into a game with high tensions, there was for sure some underlying anxiety.”
The first half concluded scoreless 0-0, with neither side being able to create the needed momentum to shift the match in their favor.
Coming out of halftime, the Dragons looked to maintain a compact defensive shape and organized their back line to prevent Bonnie from taking control of the match. The opening minutes captured a driving run down the right side from Ruby Mecham ‘26, which led to a cross into the box for a close shot on goal, momentarily putting pressure on the Seraphs defense.
Mecham said, “I think our team can improve on our offensive side of the game. We need to be working on connecting passes and focusing on having confidence to take more shots than we are now.”
The remainder of the half was highlighted by a back-and-forth battle for possession, as both teams looked to push forward. Neither side was able to convert its opportunities until, with 12 minutes remaining, the Seraphs were able to break through Foothill Tech’s defense, scoring the lone goal and concluding the game, 0-1.
The Foothill Tech girls soccer team plays again on Jan. 10, 2026, against Villanova Preparatory School (Villanova).
