On Jan. 22, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls soccer team continued their long-standing tradition of senior night, where they crushed Villanova Preparatory School (Villanova) at home, 4-0. Seniors Erika Peoples ‘26, Siena Meter ‘26, Ruby Mecham ‘26, Shea Stevenson ‘26 and Maddie Wicks ‘26 were all celebrated for their time with the team across their high school careers.

Before kickoff, the seniors were celebrated with speeches and gifts from their teammates, family and friends.
“Senior night makes me really sad to think about the fact that I’m leaving this team, and that it’s going to be my last year of soccer. I’ve been playing soccer here for four years and this year has been really fun,” said Wicks.
Foothill Tech quickly gained possession following the first half kickoff and had multiple chances in the box with runners through on goal. The Dragons finally finished off a chance in the 13th minute of the game, where Mecham scored a tap-in goal to take a 1-0 lead over Villanova.
Near the end of the half, Foothill Tech had another big chance for a potential two-goal lead, but the break was called offside by a short margin.
“One of the things we’ve been working on a lot is breaking lines, so looking to find the ball behind pockets of space, and I think today we found that. Really finding the gaps in between their midfield and their backline,” coach Forrest Solis said.

Play resumed in the second half, where the Dragons only refurbished their offensive presence and continued to dominate possession. Alinah Rodriguez ‘27, Giuliana Meter ‘29 and Wicks all scored to extend Foothill Tech’s lead to the final score 4-0 in the second half.
“Senior night feels really good. It feels really great to get a win today. And it feels really good to score on a night like this,” Wicks said.
With the win, Foothill Tech finds itself with a 2-4-1 Tri-Valley League record, which seeds them at fourth.
“I think it’s really good for the seniors to send them off on a really high note. I think, especially when you look at our record, we’ve been struggling a bit and things are starting to click for our team. They’re really becoming more approachable. Not only does that feel really good, but it also feels really good for the seniors. To end a senior night on 4-0, there is no better feeling,” Solis said.
