Every year, as the air gets crisper, pumpkin spice invades and the leaves start changing, the unofficial Gilmore Girls rewatch season begins. While the arrival of fall brings pumpkin patches or oversized scarves to some people, for the majority, it is time to return to Stars Hollow for the 25th time.
Since the show’s original debut in 2000, its popularity has continued to grow exponentially. In honor of the production’s 25th anniversary, trending brands such as Cotton On and Owala launched limited-time merchandise based on the show, along with the cast and producers announcing the show’s documentary, “Drink Coffee, Talk Fast.”
At its core, Gilmore Girls is a heartwarming, witty production. Main characters, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) Gilmore, face the ups and downs of life side by side. Watching them navigate love, school, life and drama is not only entertaining but relatable to many audiences. The balance of humor and emotion is what makes the show truly timeless.
One of the biggest reasons people keep coming back to Gilmore Girls is its setting. Stars Hollow, yet a fictional town, feels incredibly real for many. As the character Lorelai says, “Life is short, talk fast,” and that is exactly what the series delivers. The world of fast-moving, disconnection finds the slow-paced and closed-knit community both appealing and comforting.
The show debuted on Oct. 5, 2000, and ran for a total of seven seasons, recently celebrating its 25th anniversary. In honor of this, Warner Bros Entertainment Inc. (Warner Bros) hosted “pop-up” events and fan festivals throughout Los Angeles.
“A Weekend in Stars Hollow” at The Grove gave fans the long-awaited opportunity to experience Stars Hollow first-hand, with sets such as Luke’s Diner being open for the public to explore, as well as photo-ops and limited-time merch.
Behind the scenes, Sherman-Palladino, a television writer and producer, created the driving force for the show. She worked the first six seasons of Gilmore Girls, but unfortunately left due to a disagreement between The CW Network, ultimately ending the show.
But the show must go on; a reprise was formed, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, many years later. Released in 2016, characters Rory and Lorelai battle out a new season of life; however, the show was left on an epic cliffhanger.
Whether team Dean, Jess or Logan, Gilmore Girls has captured hearts once again. Its witty humor and relatable characters bring to life a heart-warming story.
