On Wednesday, April 11, Foothill’s baseball team came out of their home dug out ready to play. They took the lead early and never let go. Capitalizing on Cate’s errors, the Dragons were able to steal their way to a 5-2 win in a game of several close calls that boded well for Foothill.

At the top of the first inning, the Dragons wasted no time, getting three of four batters out. Despite a few errors, the team kept up this solid defense throughout the game. With Troy Lindemann ‘18 pitching, they only allowed Cate two runs overall.

At the bottom of the first inning, Jacob Bridges ‘18 walked to first base, stole second, stole third and scored a run when Dillon Gallagher ‘19 hit a sacrifice fly-ball to centerfield.

In the second inning, Trey Casswell ‘18 scored his first of what would be three runs total. After he hit a single and stole his way to third, Karl Roth ‘18 hit him in to put Foothill at a 2-0 lead.

A couple of hits by Cate allowed them to score at the top of the third, but Foothill responded with a run of their own. Taking advantage of some fumbling by the Cate catcher, Tyler Hong ‘20 stole second, third and home— he was barely safe as he reached over the catcher who was laying in front of the plate.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Casswell followed suit and stole home after the catcher overthrew to third, leaving him wide open to score. Though Cate was able to get another run at the top of the sixth, Casswell struck again shortly afterwards with another run, lengthening the Dragon lead to 5-2.

The Dragons finished the game off with three quick outs in the seventh inning, not allowing Cate back in the game. Wednesday’s win gave the Dragons a league record of 1-0 and an overall record of 7-6-1.
