BREAKING NEWS: Three small brushfires erupt in Ventura County

During the second day of a heat influx in Ventura, a brushfire erupted at approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10. Named the Elizabeth Fire, the brushfire between Ventura and Santa Paula has burned about 250 acres as of 3:45 p.m.

Since the fire broke out in a deserted area, it was hard to access and contain. 250 firefighters were on scene, along with helicopters to assist. As of 4:30 p.m., the fire has been 20% contained.

No road closures or evacuations have been implemented, and no injuries have been reported except for two firefighters transported for medical assessment due to general exhaustion, said VC Star.

The significantly smaller Lynnmere fire started in Thousand Oaks around 10:30 a.m. Firefighters and helicopters stopped the fire at one acre.

Lime Fire, erupting in a dry, deserted area near Lake Peru, was reported around 4:30 p.m. Due to the accessibility of the fire, helicopters were used to cease the flames. Piru Canyon campground and the area around it were put under mandatory evacuation. Piru Canyon Road was closed as well.

Three helicopters were ordered and 10 engines were requested as the fire continues to burn.

The official “wildfire season” hasn’t begun yet, but with the recent high temperatures, it seems that it may come early.
