Nicknamed “Banana Boy” during his junior year, senior Norint Tung is famous for carrying bananas with him every day. His passion for the yellow fruit will be the focus of his Dragon Talk.

“I really started to look more to my culture and bananas; how I actually grew up pretty much eating a lot of bananas every day,” Tung said. “I thought this would be a good connection back to my past.”

With humor, charm, and conviction, Tung’s Talk goes over the history of the banana, its structure, benefits, and even opening methods.

“[My] favorite part was interacting with the audience, getting them to open the bananas in different ways that they wouldn’t normally do. I thought that was fun,” he said.

Tung felt it was easy for him to present because he is so enthusiastic and passionate about bananas. The only difficulty he faced was not having enough time to talk about every aspect of bananas.

“It’s your passion, so it just comes out,” Tung said. “There was so much information that I wanted to put into the talk. I thought I could’ve spoken for maybe half an hour for this talk.”

Tung is a little nervous for his big presentation on June 2, but feels he can still pull off a confident performance.

“The setting will be definitely different because of people I don’t know and they’re freshmen. Maybe their maturity level will be slightly different from ours,” he said, referring to some of the humor in his talk.

Tung wants people to know that they can find joy in the simplest of things.

“I want them to know that you can find happiness from inanimate objects,” he said. “Overall it’s to achieve happiness from the banana.”
