On the warm evening of March 23, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys tennis team stood off against cross-town rival Saint Bonaventure Catholic High School (Bonnie) at Ventura College. The match marked not only a decisive 15–3 win for the Dragons over the Seraphs but also a celebration of the program’s departing seniors on senior night.

Beginning the day, Charlie Powers ’27 competed in the first line of singles. Powers opened strong with an impressive 6-3 win in his first set. Following a substitution by Bonnie, he narrowly lost his second set 6-7. He would be able to find his footing in the final set, however, where he completed a dominant 6-0 sweep.
In line two, teammate and brother Zach Powers ‘29 executed a similar 2 set match win over the Seraphs. His wins came in the second and third sets, 6-1 and 6-0, respectively.
Rounding off singles, Aadi Atluri ‘27 would be able to secure two sets for the Dragons in the third line. After a rough 0-6 first set, Atluri was able to recalibrate and come back with a 6-1 win in the second set and a similar 6-0 sweep in the third.
Moving to doubles play, Dylan Files ‘26 and Greg Davis ‘26 in line one took commanding control of the court. With a skilled 6-0 sweep in the first set and a 6-1 win in the second. Following this, the Seraphs decided to retire from the match, which automatically awarded the final set to the Dragons.

Commenting on the emotions of senior night and the team’s overall performance, “We never go into a game expecting it to be easy. Going into it knowing it was senior night, there was a lot of energy … My doubles partner [Davis] and I were playing really good today,” Files said.
The second line saw Ansh Joshi ‘26 and Nicholas Saucedo ‘28 deliver a similarly strong performance, taking down both the first and second sets of play 6-1 and 6-0. Following this, Bonnie again opted to retire their players, allowing the Dragons to secure the third set.
“We went in with a really chill mindset, we are number one in our league, and competition-wise we definitely exceed them … Everyone’s out here playing really well, nobody’s out messing up just to mess up,” said Joshi.
The last match of doubles had Tommy Van Calker ‘27 and Lucas Hellman ‘29 secure all three of their sets over the Seraphs to close out the day for the Dragons, 15-3.
Foothill Tech’s next game will be against The Thatcher School (Thatcher) on March 26.
