On March 13, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys tennis team faced Villanova Prep (Villanova) at the Ventura High School Tennis Courts. The Dragons ultimately defeated Villanova, 17-1.
On singles line one, Zack Powers ‘29 had a pretty evenly matched first set, winning 6-3. He then breezed through his next two sets, securing three overall team points for the Dragons.
Aaditya Atluri ‘27 won two of his matches, winning 6-2 and 6-1. Lucas Hellman ‘29 later subbed in for Atluri and won his match 6-1. Giving the singles line two, three points.
“I just tried to play smarter than the other player. I just would bait him into approaching the net, and smack the ball to his right or left,” said Atluri, “ We just had more fire in our game.”
Nick Saucedo ‘28 played singles line three, where he won two of three matches, to secure the last final points for the Dragons. With his winning scores of 6-2 and 6-0, and a final loss of 1-6.
Greg Davis ‘26 and Dylan Files ‘26 played doubles on line one, where they dominated, winning all three sets. Winning two sets 6-0, and their final set 6-1.
“We were just trying to get up to the net really fast and play aggressively today. This game really helped me play against a variety of players,” said Files.
Ansh Joshi ‘26 and Tommy Van Calker ‘27 secured two set wins, 6-0, on the doubles line two. Joshi ‘26 was later subbed out for Gordon Xue ‘29 to finish the final set, and Xue ‘29 and Van Calker ‘27 defeated Villanova. The doubles team collected three team points, contributing to the win.
Lastly, three doubles played by Noah Cho ‘28 and Mac Nicols ‘29 won all three of their sets, contributing three team points to the Dragons’ victory. With a first-set score of 6-4 and a score of 6-0 in the last two sets.
With hard-fought matches between the players, the Dragons were able to secure a 17-1 victory over Villanova Prep. The Dragons face Nordoff High School at Nordoff on March 17.
