As the school year comes to a close, many are eager for Foothill’s graduation ceremony. It can be an overwhelming day but here is some information to make the day go smoother for graduation attendees.
On graduation day, seniors are supposed to check in at Ventura College’s gymnasium. Doors open for seating at 12:15 p.m., but teacher Justin Frazier recommends coming as early as possible because seating is “first come first served.” Seats cannot be reserved. Graduation begins at 1 p.m. Immediately following the ceremony, seniors must return to the auxiliary gym to receive diplomas. Parking is available in the main student parking lot in front of the gym from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Students must act accordingly, and any behavior that draws undue attention is unacceptable. Also, balloons, noisemakers, signs or any other distractions are prohibited and may result in removal from the ceremony.
Seniors are expected to be dressed in formal attire. Boys must wear a dress shirt, dress pants and dark shoes, and a tie is optional but encouraged. Girls may wear dresses or dress shirts and pants. No jeans, denim or athletic shoes are allowed. Students are advised to not bring unnecessary items as they will all be held in Ventura College’s auxiliary gym.
Each graduate will be given eight tickets, and no additional tickets will be given. The only way to obtain extra tickets is to request unused ones from other graduates. Tickets are required for entrance.
Graduation is an important and emotional time for students, parents and teachers.
“Even if I’m not emotional as soon as the music starts playing and I see them all lined up the tears start to well up,” Frazier said.
