With the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year in full swing, the Associated Student Body (ASB) of Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) hosted student elections for the sophomore, junior and senior class presidents and vice presidents, with voting taking place on Feb. 20.

While some candidates ran unopposed, others campaigned for votes with posters hung across campus. Posters supporting one of the three Sophomore Class President candidates, Sydney Traub ‘29, Brooklyn Martinez ‘29 and Ella Wong ‘29, could be found around Foothill Tech in the weeks leading up to the election, voting for which was open to the entire school. All three candidates shared their campaign platforms leading up to the election.
“I want to … help our school become better than it already is, because we have an amazing school already, and I want to help grow that, and … I want to focus not only on our students’ academics [and] sports, but also their joy, inclusivity and diversity as well,” Traub said.
Echoing the desire for growth, Martinez touched on goals and hopes for Foothill Tech in the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

“I want to try and make the program stay either as it was or try to make it better than it was to create fun and impactful events that people remember and be able to talk about throughout their high school years,” Martinez said.
Wong, who is the current Freshman Class President, emphasized the importance of unity within classes, specifically, the class of 2029.
“I want to continue to be able to build the spirit of all of our class of 2029 and plan fundraisers, events, and just make everything overall better or as the same, and just continue to build spirit and make everything better,” Wong said.
Sophomore Class Vice President candidate Matthew Carmen ‘29 discussed his reasons for running for vice president, as well as what he hopes to accomplish in the role.
“I want to help out our class and I want to bring ideas and fundraise, and also because this year I’m in ASB, I feel like I could be doing more, and I feel like I’m not ready to be president, but I feel like I’m ready to be vice president,” Carmen said.

As students progress into their upperclassmen years, school can often intensify, with work seemingly piling up for many. Junior Class President candidate Allison Fossati ‘28, the current Sophomore Class President, shared how she hopes to contribute to Foothill Tech, specifically the incoming junior class, to ensure a smoother year.
“I think everyone knows junior year is the academic rigor … so I want junior appreciation, bad day academic stuff, even if it’s just giving out Jolly Ranchers during finals or something like that. I think we just need to be a little bit more gentle about all of it,” Fossati said.
Mia Rivera ‘28, candidate for Junior Class Vice President, shared her goals for the 2026-2027 school year as well.
“Junior year is supposed to be really hard, so I feel like being able to be an ASB and be the backbone for a lot of that, a lot of the activities and making sure that it’s not purely just hard academics, that would be fun,” Rivera said.

Senior year marks the end of an era for many, with college applications and graduation just on the horizon. Before they throw off their caps, though, senior class officers plan the events that make senior year special. The candidate for Senior Class Vice President, Parks Riley ‘27, discussed how he hopes to make the year more memorable and enjoyable for the incoming senior class.
“I hope to … run a lot of senior events. There’s some standard ones, like senior barbecue, senior recess, senior picnic, senior coffee bar and the Halloween Dance, but we also want to do a seniors’ Renaissance trip, which I know the class of ‘24, I think, did a few years ago, and SOAR, which is a rally that we did last year,” Riley said.
The candidate for Senior Class President is JJ Mendes ‘27, who also served as Sophomore Class President in the 2024-2025 school year and is currently Junior Class President for the 2025-2026 school year. With many goals for the last year of high school for the class of 2027, Mendes talked about what he hopes to accomplish in the upcoming school year.
“I want to have lots and lots of senior class only events, whatever that may be, because there’s traditions from past years’ ASB … like senior recess [and] senior barbecue, and I also want to expand on that with whatever the next year’s senior class has ideas for, and I can take the feedback and do it,” Mendes said.
