On Nov. 24, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball team defeated Del Sol High School (Del Sol) 57-13. In this season opener, the game featured standout performances from Bella Baum ‘26 and Jocelyn Morales ‘28.
“It’s nice to get a win like that on your season opener. The girls looked good tonight, they did a lot of stuff really well, played good defense. And then on the opposite side of the court, they shared the ball really well and executed a lot of the stuff that we’ve been working on,” Chuck Ferris, Foothill Tech’s head coach, said.
The game started with a run of 20 unanswered points by Foothill Tech. Baum and Morales began their night establishing their dominant presence in the paint, which led to easy layups.

“We’ve got a couple of taller players, Jocelyn and Bella, and we’re trying to really place them in a position to make it work and make it happen. They executed well,” Ferris said.
Del Sol finally erased the zero off the scoreboard with a pair of free throws, but already proved to be no match for the Dragons after a 36-4 halftime score.
“Del Sol was not a really tough team, so we reminded ourselves that we had to be ready for those really tough teams. But they showed well tonight, they really did. They did a good job,” Ferris said.
After Baum and Morales were applauded for their performances and rested in the final quarter, the Dragons fought until the end and closed out the game 57-13.
“I wanted to go back in. I had to kind of just sit there and watch, and you always kind of want to go back in. I kind of cooled off, but I feel like I would have rather been in the game than on the bench,” Baum said.
With the win, the Dragons keep their undefeated record alive at 1-0.
“You know, winning always feels great, so it was nice to win our first game of the season,” Baum said.
Following the comfortable win, Foothill Tech plans to keep its momentum alive as the season progresses.
“Tomorrow we’re gonna get to practice, and then we’re gonna go have a pizza party and celebrate a little bit, then take the Thanksgiving break and come back ready to get back to work. We’re losing a little bit of the momentum that we were hoping for, but we’ll get back at it,” Ferris said.
After the break to enjoy Thanksgiving festivities, they face Newbury Park High School on Dec. 3 at the Panthers’ home court.
