“The purpose of Back to School Night is for parents to come in and be able to see their teachers and size them up and see what is going on, on campus,” English and Social Sciences teacher Richard Geib said.

At the end of the night, parents interviewed were glad to know what their child was doing at school and said they thought it was important to go to Back to School Night.

“I like seeing her classrooms and her teachers. I want to understand and feel comfortable about where my child goes,” said Edmund Sondors, parent of Foothill sophomore Vineta Sondors.

When parents and students walked out onto the quad in the early evening they were treated to music played by Foothill students. They could also purchase the meals that were being sold.

After an hour of eating and listening to music, the parents moved off to visit their students’ classes. Each teacher had ten minutes per class to talk to parents.

After visiting their students’ first, second, and third period classes, parents swarmed out of the classrooms and back onto the quad, where they helped themselves to baked goods and water during a short break. Parent were able to donate to clubs and organizations such as Speech and Debate, AVID, and sports teams.

Once break had ended, parents went to their students fourth, fifth ,and sixth period classes to conclude the night.

The main body that organized the event was Foothill’s Associate Student body (ASB). ASB divided up into groups for the event. Certain groups were out in the front of the school making sure people had gotten the correct meal they ordered while other sections were tasked with setting up tables and chairs.

“It is a great deal of work,” ASB President Cody Clark said.

From the people interviewed, the purpose of the event seems well received.

“The purpose is for your parents to see how you’re doing and for teachers to tell your parents what they think of you and communicate about how you are doing,” Foothill sophomore Sabrina Almaraz said.
