On Wednesday, the girls’ water polo team played against Malibu High School. Foothill defeated Malibu with a final score of 17-10.

Sophomore Lezly Plahn led Foothill’s scoring with six goals and sophomore Meagan McKillican scored five times. Senior Ariana Singer scored three goals. In addition, junior Vanessa Villalpando, senior Annie Sinclair, and freshman Josie Thorp each scored once.

According to Coach Samantha Ebberson, the most exciting part of the game was that “every person on the starting lineup [scored] a goal, which is hard to do in [water polo].”

Ebberson believed that the girls played well as a team and were “united.”

“They look solid when they play now, they have definitely clicked and you can see it when they play,” said Ebberson. “It’s not just a show from one person; it’s one team, united.”

Ebberson also believes the team can improve on playing defensively.

“We need to work on our defensive side and learning to guard more than one player in the water,” said Ebberson.

Foothill now has a league record of five wins and zero losses, with an overall record of 20 wins and three losses.

With the end of league games nearing, Ebberson hopes to go and participate in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championship games.

“We are excited to finish league and take a chance at CIF,” said Ebberson. “We have the CIF finals as our goal and the girls are doing anything it takes to get there.”

Foothill will compete against Cate School in their fourth home game of the season at the Ventura Aquatics Center on Thursday.
