Nordhoff High School beat the boys’ tennis team on the Dragons’ home court at Ventura College on Tuesday. The Rangers won with a final score of 11-7.
Singles player junior CJ Haberbush won two of his three sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-2. The remaining singles players, sophomore Peter Jesperson and junior Gabriel Linnehan, lost all three of their individual sets.
Doubles players juniors Dominic DuMont and Noah Colby swept all three of their sets with scores of 6-2, 6-0, and 6-0. Doubles team senior Austin Gama and freshman Kaylan Ouerbacker won one of their sets as did sophomores Martin Gama and Jayden Carlson.
Athletics Director Emily Stevens sees the team’s loss of energy as an area for improvement.
“I think maybe our stamina [needs improvement]. I think we were getting tired by that third round,” she said.
Nevertheless, Stevens praises the team’s vitality and sportsmanship.
“We have a really young team and they played really hard,” she said. “They never gave up [and] they had great sportsmanship, as commented by the Nordhoff coach. I think we can get [Nordhoff] in the next match.”
