The boys’ varsity water polo team played Villanova Preparatory School Friday at their third home game of the season, and lost with a final score of 10-15.
Junior Mitchell Caldwell scored three times and seniors Colin Brown and James Florez both scored twice. Senior Spencer Nichols, senior Simon Christie and junior Spencer Wittrock each scored one goal. Goalie and senior Paul Byrne blocked Villanova from scoring six times.
In the second quarter of the game, Foothill blocked Villanova’s counter-attack, and held them at one goal. According to coach David Wallace, “it was one [of] the best quarters [Foothill] played all season.”
“We attacked the drop defense with teamwork,” said Wallace, “and found the open player for the shot, scoring four goals.”
Wallace also said that Foothill played better against Villanova this time than before.
“We did much better than our previous games against Villanova, scoring three more goals and holding Villanova to three less goals overall,” said Wallace.
Foothill’s varsity team now has an overall league record of zero wins and seven losses.
The junior varsity (JV) water polo team, on the other hand, defeated Villanova, with a final score of 11-9 in overtime.
Junior varsity’s overall league record stands at five wins and two losses.
Wallace looks forward to the upcoming games against Malibu High School on Oct. 29, and Cate School on Oct. 31.
