With the bloom of domoic acid affecting the marine food chain, animals that digest fish, such as seabirds, can suffer injuries to the nervous system, internal organs and often death. Brown pelicans, a commonly affected species, can eat upwards of four pounds of seafood daily, resulting in high domoic acid levels in their diet.

In San Diego Calif, off the coast of La Jolla, many sea lions could be seen lying on the beach. Normally, one would look at these animals and think they’re just sleeping or resting. However, after taking a closer look, it was clear to see that the behavior of these sea lions were anything but normal. Many were swaying, hyperventilating and even becoming violent. As a result, many residents and tourists have needed to call animal control and marine-life services on their trip to the beach.

These protests focused on cuts to the Department of Veteran Affairs, low taxation of billionaires, abortion rights, changes to schools integration of DEI classes and more. In short, these protests demanded the government take their “Hands Off” these issues. After receiving a pass, Jayden Wallace ’25 (number 7) sets the ball to his outside hitter. Wallace’s consistent sets and steady serves helped his team rack up points, and his leadership kept his team going as well.

Tyler Nelson ’25 (number 8) gets ready to spike the ball, attempting to attack Dunn’s weak spots. As an outside hitter, Nelson had a multitude of hits and digs which helped lead his team to their 3-0 victory.
