Age: 17
Grade: Junior
Running For: ASB President
If you were elected what would be your top priority?
McPherson-Wehan: Well, my top priority in ASB would probably be better time management because we have a lot of problems with that. At our business meetings we barely get anything done because everyone is talking, and people will go on for a really long time about their events when they don’t need to and we only have 48 minutes. I think we could be a lot more productive just by keeping it simple.
I also, personally, miss dances. We only have two at Foothill (Winter Formal and Prom), and I think it would be cool to have another dance hosted by Foothill that is our own.
And, sorry I have one more, I think that Foothill should start recognizing athletes more. Because they play sports for other schools, people don’t really acknowledge them, and I remember feeling like teachers and students didn’t really know I played basketball, but that was a big part of my life. Sports take up a lot of time, and they are really hard so even though it might be difficult, maybe in the bulletin they could mention what teams are playing and who is playing. It might take a while because there are a lot of athletes, and we wouldn’t even have to do that, but I just feel like we should really give the kids who play sports for Buena and Ventura more recognition. So those would be my three top priorities.
Why did you choose to run for this position?
McPherson-Wehan: The position of ASB president is to represent Foothill to the teachers and at board meetings, and I really like public speaking, so I feel like I would represent ASB well. I like technology, I am a good student, I am diplomatic, I am assertive and I love leading, so this was an easy choice. It is an all around good fit for me.
What previous ASB experience do you have?
McPherson-Wehan: Well, I was in ASB in eighth grade and I have been in Foothill ASB since sophomore year. I was the Renaissance Rally Assistant Director that year, and this year I am the Lunchtime Activities Director. I was also chosen to be the Foothill Representative with Blake Silva at HOBY last year, which was an honor. HOBY is a weekend leadership camp at Cal Lutheran.
Why do you want to hold this position?
McPherson-Wehan: I think we need really productive leaders in ASB, and it’s not that Andre and Alex aren’t productive, they do a lot, it’s just that I think we need someone who isn’t impatient but get things done quickly. I don’t like wasting time. It’s not that we aren’t productive this year, it’s just that I think we could be more productive. I also think I would set a good example.
