In their latest act of rebellion, North Korea has announced that they intend to launch a satellite into space in honor of the 100th birthday of their country’s founder. The United States, alongside China and other nations, are shocked by North Korea’s actions (especially since a food aid agreement had recently been reached).

From where I see it, this should not come as a surprise. Since the beginning of its “communist” regime, North Korea has never been reliable. It has constantly changed its stance on topics and pulled back on various agreements. All the more, it has grown accustomed to backstabbing some of its friends and allies.

However, just because we shouldn’t be shocked at the totalitarian regimes actions doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be frightened. The country now has a new leader who appears to be more than ready to exercise his newly obtained power. Kim Jong-un, a young and ignorant man, is too inexperienced to understand the consequences of launching satellites into space. Frankly, he does not care of the outcomes of his actions. And it is because of this that we should be nervous.

North Korea’s leader will not hesitate in exercising his inherited power. His country is working on a missile that has the potential of hitting Alaska. Soon enough, the country will find a way to devastate more populated parts of the United States. If we wish to stay safe and protected, then we must peruse diplomatic relations with North Korea and keep them happy; happy enough to where we don’t have to use military force to keep the world and our country safe.
