The year of 2023 signified a cultural shift in the scope of arts and entertainment, both in the global sector of popular culture as well as at Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech). School events and dances gave students needed excitement, streaming services and movie theaters had an apparent surplus of entertainment and a variety of fashion trends took social media and students by storm. The writing section of the Foothill Dragon Press has compiled a list of 2023’s highlights, from movies to concerts, books to fashion trends and video games to Foothill Tech’s best. It made $366 million on a $150 million budget. With a 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it is certified fresh. And with Wicked Part 2 coming in 2025, this is a must watch movie.

"Smile 2" hit theaters on Oct. 18, 2024, a sequel to the previous film "Smile" released on Sep. 30, 2022. Skye Riley, the main character played by Naomi Scott, is about to embark on a world-tour when she begins to experience increasingly disturbing events before appearing on stage. Lasting two hours and 12 minutes, the movie is rated R for its use of blood and violence and has generated $137.7 million in box office admissions since its release.
“Smile 2”: A frightening, twisted horror sequel

On Dec. 16, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls basketball team competed in a league match against St. Bonaventure High School, (Bonnie) and lost 47-76. Kiara Zavala ‘26 (number 5) runs the ball up the court starting an offensive play with hopes of catching up to St. Bonnie.

On Dec. 13 and 14, 2024, the Ventura Harbor hosted its annual Parade of Lights, with this year's theme being Candy Land. This event has free admission with some paid activities. They had kids rides, carnival games and some food vendors on the Harbor Village lawn. Along the main walkway, they had faux snow, a bubble guy and LED performers dressed up in light up costumes.

CIF Cross Country: A season in review
At the winter holidays approach, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) held its annual candy cane drive. Candy canes, the perfect holiday treat, were dispersed in decorated jars in every science classroom, from Mrs. Anderson to Mr. Weldele. Students in these classes were encouraged to donate a dollar and receive one of these treats in return, a donation that goes to the National Marrow Donor Program, formerly known as Be The Match.
