Watch Luigirey Guce ‘25 and Aiden Gomez ‘25 as they take on tennis in the second installment of Benchwarmers while joined by Julia Geib ‘25, Kira Branson ‘24 and Lola Tennison ‘24, members of the Division One Foothill Tech girls’ tennis team.
Guce and Gomez began their training session learning the proper technique of a forehand. Once they were taught the proper hand positioning on the racquet, Guce and Gomez were put to the test as Geib began feeding them balls to hit over the net. Thinking hitting the ball across the net would be easy, Guce and Gomez were humbled as they started off the session by swinging sky balls over the fence and knocking balls into the net.
After learning the forehand, they were taught by Tennison how to hit a two handed backhand. This swing was shown to be particularly difficult as balls were barely making it to the net. With their final coach, Branson, they were taught the proper skills needed to nail a serve across the net.
The boys ended their session by attempting a tweener, a difficult shot that involves hitting the ball between your legs while running.
Watch this action packed, humorous installment of Benchwarmers to see Guce and Gomez learn the difficulties of tennis while attempting to master the proper techniques while helped by the Foothill Tech girls’ tennis team.
