Foothill’s last girls’ tennis game of the season ended in defeat by Magnolia High School on Friday with a score of 13-5.
The match took place at Magnolia and, according to Coach Brad McClain, did not begin well.
McClain believes that the team had a “really poor first round.” They were ahead at first, but didn’t “stay intense,” and lost six matches in the first round.
This was “too big of a hole to get out of,” said McClain.
The singles players won three points; two by senior Lea Menesklou and one by sophomore Anna-Kate Levesque.
The doubles teams of sophomore Summer Khouvilay and freshman Sherlyn Khouvilay, and senior Claire Stockdill and junior Karina Cole each scored one point and won the remaining two points.
Based on the team’s improvement throughout the season, McClain believes that “for a first year team, our season was great.”
He also hopes that the girls will continue to play in the off season because he believes “that’s what it takes to continue to grow.”
This loss ended their season, but the Foothill girls’ tennis team made it to the third round of playoffs and won the second place title in the Frontier league.
