The boys’ tennis team was defeated by Laguna Blanca School 7-11 on Tuesday at the Owls’ home court. The loss brings the Dragons’ record to 1-1 this season.
Singles player junior CJ Haberbush won one of his sets 6-0 and lost the other two 2-6. Sophomore Peter Jesperson, the second singles player, won two of his sets 6-0 and 6-4 and lost one 0-6.
According to Coach McClain, the boys played a “solid team” and he was “pleased to see the guys fight hard every round.”
However, he believes that the team still needs “to improve [their] serving and consistency.”
Doubles players juniors Dominic DuMont and Noah Colby lost their first set 4-6 but won the last two 6-3 and 6-1. Senior Austin Gamma and junior Gabriel Linnehan won their first set 6-2 and lost the other two sets 2-6 and 4-6. Similarly, sophomores Martin Gamma and Jayden Carlson won their first set 6-1 and lost the last two 1-6.
Coach McClain is looking forward to seeing “who wants to work hard and improve.”
“Tennis isn’t easy as it takes time to develop a good game,” he said. “Lessons are very important. Some players take advantage of that and some don’t.”
Correction: This article originally incorrectly stated that boys’ tennis won 11-7, when they in fact lost 7-11. The Dragon Press rejects the error. This correction was added on March 11, 2016 at 11:11 pm.

Your information is incorrect. FTHS lost to Laguna Blanca, and won against Channel Islands. I will have Dominic message some photos on FB.
