To speak for those who cannot, and to give a voice to those who have none: a statement that summarizes my sole reason for being a journalist. My name is Ben Gill, and I’m a senior at Foothill Technology High School, as well as a “journalist-at-large” for The Foothill Dragon Press. As an aspiring journalist and documentarian, my ultimate goal in life is to become a foreign and/or war correspondent covering conflicts and injustice abroad. I seek to expose the little-known and little talked about issues in the world. My heroes and mentors include the late Tim Hetherington, Sebastian Junger, Idil Ibrahim, and journalist Josh Rushing. People like these inspire me to seek out the stories worthy of coverage that receive none. Simply put, I want to be an advocate for the people who can’t speak for themselves, and to spread awareness around the world about the stories worth listening to.
