On Wednesday, the Foothill varsity boys’ water polo team competed against Malibu High School in an away game. The Sharks beat the Dragons with a final score of 19-8. Foothill now has an overall record of two wins, seven losses and a league record of zero wins, one loss.
Junior Kevin Waechter believes that “it was a very well-played game by both teams” and despite the loss, the Dragons “connected.”
“As a team we played very well considering last year we lost [18-4], but overall we connected as a team today which lead to opportunities to score, which we did,” he said.
During the second quarter of the game, Waechter noticed the Dragons were more successful because of teamwork, which continued throughout the rest of the game.
“The best quarter of the game was the second quarter because that’s when we started to play as a team, which then lead us to steals on defense and counter-attacks to score against them,” Waechter said.
He attributed the team’s improvement to their communication and not “blaming each other for certain things [they] did.”
Waechter looks forward to playing more games and competing “better than [Foothill] did today.”
The Dragons will play Nordhoff High School on Friday, Oct. 2 in Ojai, Calif.
