EVAN ASKAR
Biography:
My name is Evan Askar and I am a student-athlete currently attending Foothill Technology High School. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA or higher throughout my high school career, and am a Co-Captain of the Ventura High School track and cross country teams.
Leadership experience:
At the end of this year I will have had one year of ASB experience at Foothill. I am a captain on track and cross country team, and have been a captain on both since sophomore year. I was in Leadership in 8th grade, and was a peer tutor throughout 7th and 8th grade.
Related Experience:
By Senior year, I will have attended many various leadership clinics and camps, all which have helped me grow as a person and a leader. I will have attended Camp Ramah twice, various CADA conferences, multiple LA84 clinics and a three day camp at Westmont college.
Educational Achievements:
I have been on platinum Renaissance for my entire high school career and have maintained a GPA of 4.0 or above since the start of my freshman year. I have taken/continue to take AP and honors courses, and am actively enrolled in the Bioscience Academy.
Platform Statement:
During my ASB service at Foothill this year, I have planned, managed, and carried out Red Ribbon Week, and the first annual Stop Hunger Games. Both of which were a success on and off campus. I have excelled in academics and sport through dedication and hard work and I believe that I would be able to apply both of these fundamental skills to being successful ASB president. As the ASB president at Foothill, I would have four main points of focus. The first being an optional use of the FIRE period provided for Juniors and Seniors. During this period upperclassmen would be offered help with writing college applications, studying for the SAT and ACT, along with other possible opportunities. I would bring forth and re-emphasize the importance of student body relations. I would take advantage of the ASB’s ability to communicate quickly and effectively with the student body to receive feedback on events put on by ASB, then apply this input to the creation of more fun and successful events in the future. As sports are going to become a part of Foothill culture, I feel that it is important to establish a program that recognizes the student athletes on campus for their success. Lastly, I would like to improve Renaissance in a way that would reward not only those that meet a certain GPA standard, but those that have improved their grades without meeting the GPA criteria as a way of positively reinforcing their improvements.
CARLOS COHEN
Biography:
“Who am I? WHO AM I? I am the powerful, the pleasurable, the indestructible Mushu.” Why start with a quote from Mulan? Well, my name is Carlos Vigil Cohen II, and aside from scales, I am through and through a proud FTHS Dragon. Allow me to introduce myself.
Leadership Experience:
Last year, I was the Sophomore Class President here at FTHS, in charge of planning the 1920’s themed Winter Formal at the Majestic Ventura Theater. I’m not sure if you heard, but that night, we made close to $8000.00 for the class of 2015. I can throw a party 😉
Related Experience:
I have also served as the First Sergeant in my US Civil Air Patrol, Air Force Auxiliary program, and am soon to be the Executive Officer of Squadron 61. In addition, I am a facilitator at a summer leadership conference at Loyola Marymount University for the past three years.
Educational Achievements :
During high school, I have taken all Honors and AP courses, and have maintained straight A’s throughout. It’s been tough, but I believe that learning is important, as is striving for excellence. I’m in CSF, NHS, Speech and Debate, as well as the Bioscience Academy, and am enjoying it all.
Platform Statement :
One of my most valued attributes is the courage to dream big. I really push the envelope when it comes to new ideas, and I thrive in areas that haven’t been explored before. This upcoming school year, 2014-2015, Foothill Tech is going to be experiencing something new: a sports program. There has been much debate as to what will happen, but it is my goal to make the transition as smooth and as fun as possible. What we as a school make of next year will decide how sports are going to be integrated into Foothill’s culture not only in the short term, but also for the years to come. I would be very excited to head up the transformational process, and ensure that we together make the decisions that will set the foundation for what is to come in the future. I have very high hopes for what we can accomplish next year.
What makes FTHS such a special place is the understanding that we all have that excellence, integrity, and respect are fundamental to progress. Or maybe that’s just me. Regardless, I know that visions that we make, the goals that we set, and fun that we will indubitably have, can all be achieved. I promise you, that as ASB President and fellow Dragon, we will collectively push the envelope in a positive way that our school has never seen before.

I have been a part of ASB during these last two pivotal years where we have changed advisors, giving me a broader perspective on the direction our school can take. I understand the best of our traditions as well as having a comprehensive understanding of the changes that are being currently implemented. This next year will be another pivotal year with athletics coming to Foothill. I am an athlete myself and know the needs of the school for an athletic identity. GO DRAGONS! I also promise to be a transparent leader and be attuned to your wants and needs, so feel free to approach me with your ideas. I get along well with people and feel I can identify with everyone at this school, and be your best representative. I envision that we can rally together to create a greater version of our school during this critical year, through sports, renaissance, and student involvement. We should all come together and with the leadership that I can give you make our school a better place.
