William Flannery is a sophomore at Foothill Technology High School and a first-year journalist for the Foothill Dragon Press. William has a rigorous class schedule and is a year ahead in Spanish. His mother, who was born in Panama, helped him learn to speak Spanish at an early age. William feels that journalism is immensely important and that everything that occurs in life has a story and perspective that needs to be told. He feels that as an Opinion writer, he can seek the perspectives of people on controversial topics and allow their voice to be spread. William is very interested in ethics and the broad topics it covers. He likes to keep up with important events that are going on in the world. In his free time, William likes to play video games, hang out with friends, go on bicycle rides and analyze literature and movies. William had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when he was in middle school, which challenged him and kept him from going to school for a few months. William got through this obstacle by being adamant and strengthening himself. He believes that it helped shape who he is today and inspired him to become a pediatric doctor. He feels that he has his own unique presence and that he differs from many other people. When he asks his friends how they would describe him in one word, they all just say “William.”
