Under sunny blue skies on April 7, 2025, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys tennis team geared up for a match against St. Bonaventure High School (Bonnie). The Dragons competed at their home courts, Ventura College (VC), and walked away with a victory of 15-3.
Starting off the day, Aaditya Aturi ‘27 began his match, playing line one in the singles category. Aturi had a rocky start with his first set ending 0-6, however he quickly regained his footing, making intricate serves, and demolishing the court with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 against his next two opponents.
Line two’s Nicholas Saucedo ‘28 met a similar end, losing his first match 1-6 against a tricky opponent. However, Saucedo bounced back with two wins, both scoring 6-0. Dylan Files ‘26 ended his sets with the exact same scores as Saucedo, 1-6 in the first, followed by two 6-0 wins, adding more victories to the Foothill Tech tally.
Files commented on team goals for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), stating, “For CIF we need to ensure we have enough depth within the team especially on our lower lines to be capable of competing with better teams”

Next up the Dragons competed in the doubles category, sweeping Bonnie effortlessly in all nine of their sets. Foothill Tech’s first line consisted of Gregory Davis ‘26 and Tyler Swenson ‘26. Together Davis and Swenson used teamwork and practiced skill to attain 6-0 scores in all three of their sets.
On line two Ansh Joshi ‘26 and Kiran Maserang ‘25 competed for the Dragons, quickly ending their first set 6-1, and their next two 6-0. Much like line 2, Tommy Van Calker ‘27 and Emiliano Ferro ‘25 won all of their matches. Both players took time gaining a rhythm in their first match, beating their opponent 6-3.After finding their rhythm the boys demonstrated strength and skill on the court, winning their second set 6-0 and third set 6-1.
“We did very good this match, we had some people missing or out because of injuries. Regardless, we were able to win a lot of our matches even with the low number of players” Emiliano Ferro ‘25 said.
Foothill Tech looks to build on this success as they prepare for their next match on April 14, 2025, against Cate School (Cate) at home.
