As winter break approaches, Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) put on a winter week from Dec. 9 to Dec. 13, 2024, to get students and faculty in the holiday mood. The spirit week was hosted by the Associated Student Body (ASB) and the Wellness Center as they both put on activities for Dragons throughout the week.
On the first day of winter week, students were encouraged to wear their holiday pajamas to school. At lunch, holiday music filled the air while the Wellness Center set up a table for students to make lavender sachets. Participants could fill the sachets with lavender and personalize them using decorative stamps. Jeremiah Kinman ‘26 stated, “I really liked pajama day because it was fun to wear something comfortable to school while still keeping it festive.”
On Tuesday, students had the opportunity to show their spirit by wearing holiday accessories such as ties, socks and hats. During lunch, ASB hosted a candy cane gram activity where students could create and send messages to friends. Meanwhile, the Wellness Center offered a chance to assemble “peace packs,” filled with calming items like focus patches, mints, bubble wrap, calm bands and sensory stickers.
The next day focused on which movie was better: “The Nightmare Before Christmas” or “The Grinch.” Students were asked to dress up in clothing inspired by one of the movies to demonstrate their preference. During Foothill Intervention, Reinforcement and Enrichment (FIRE) and lunch, a petting zoo was held in the quad, giving students the opportunity to interact with different animals, including a goat, chickens, bunnies, guinea pigs, a tortoise and a duck. Many students gathered around the enclosure, waiting for their turn to meet the animals up close.
Jason Noufal ‘25 shared his favorite activity of the week saying, “I liked the petting zoo because it was fun to walk around with the goat and see all the different animals.”
Thursday brought the classic “ugly sweater day,” with some students donning their most festive attire. ASB hosted a gingerbread house-making activity during lunch, where friends worked together to build festive creations. Additionally, the Wellness Center held a bubble activity. Several students participated in the fun, each trying to create the biggest bubble.
On the final day of the week, students were asked to wear the traditional holiday colors—red, white and green. Santa made a special appearance during lunch, reading a holiday story on the stage and taking pictures with students. Many gathered with their friends to listen to the story and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.
Winter Week offered students a variety of activities and themed events to participate in during the lead-up to winter break. From crafts and spirit days to interactive activities, the week provided opportunities for the school community to engage and celebrate the season together.
