On Sept. 24, 2024 the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls golf team competed against Santa Paula High School (Santa Paula) on their home course, Olivas Links. With a par of 36, the Dragons shot across 9 holes ending with a score of 287, six strokes over Santa Paula’s 281.
Foothill Tech’s Audrey Yoong ‘26 made a huge impact in helping the Dragons win as she shot an overall score of 44. Yoong shot the lowest score of the day with 8 over par and proved herself worthy of her number one spot.
Tess Borkowski ‘27 spoke about the team’s overall effort saying, “I think that a lot of us played very well but while on our home course, we can see our shortcomings more clearly and be further prepared for the next game there, such as avoiding sand traps and aiming on the course.”
Other Dragons made excellent shots throughout the day with Bella Baum ‘26 shooting a 55, a solid 19 over par. Brooklyn Brown ‘28 followed with a 62 across the course’s nine holes. Finally, rounding out the team, Bella Bradely ‘27 and Borkowski both shot a 69.
Baum commented on her efforts, saying “I think I did good on hitting my hybrids, but honestly, my drives and puts were all over the place.”
Brown continued to talk more about the off day for the Dragons, adding “I’m trying to get [my puts] more straight and that’s what I need to improve on.”
Borkowski spoke on the loss saying, “I think that a loss brings the team closer together than a win and proves what we do very well and what we can improve on.”
The Dragons hope to improve on their game and use their insight from past matches to level up their play. This mindset will be carried into their next game on Oct. 3, 2024 against Pacifica High School.
