The course was gleaming and ready to be dominated by the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys golf team. On May 2, two freshmen took on League Finals at the Olivas Links course to compete in hopes to move onto the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) postseason.
Head coach Matt Villegas stated, “Overall, we had a very young team. Out of 10 total boys on the team, 8 were freshmen, one sophomore and one senior, so the future is very bright for us!”
Reagan Wolfe ‘26 and Ben Markov ‘26 were two of the four freshmen that qualified for league finals, and the only two players from Foothill Tech that qualified. Markov shot an overall score of 108 which is 36 over par, and Wolfe shot an overall score of 112, 40 over par.
The only senior on the team, Alexander Muller ‘24, stated, “I feel very confident in the team’s ability to do well next year.”
League Finals was a two-day match, the first day being April 30 where the two players competed at Olivas Links. They had more success on the second day, as their first day nerves were not as prominent.
Muller stated, “Everyone was pretty good with their irons. That’s how one of the freshmen shot a 45 through nine holes.”
Wolfe and Markov both earned the All-League Honorable Mention Honors Award from the Tri-Valley league in which they were recognized for their importance, hard work and skill throughout the season.
Coach Villegas stated with enthusiasm, “The boys improved with every match both as a team and as individuals and were a fun group to coach!”
The Dragons look forward to next year where they plan to take on the field with a young team and talented players.
