On Wednesday, Feb. 22, Foothill applicants for the 2017-2018 school year received letters in the mail revealing the long-awaited information of whether they were accepted, declined or waitlisted for enrollment in the upcoming school year.

Principal Joe Bova said that out of the 560 applications Foothill received this year, the school sent out a total of 300 acceptance packets to incoming freshmen. Bova has a “goal of getting to 275 [registration packets] once the window closes.” If 275 students enroll in the upcoming school year, Foothill’s population will decrease by about 15-20 students in comparison to this year’s numbers.

In regards to grades other than freshmen, Bova says approximately 60 students applied for 10th grade, 30 for 11th grade and 10 for 12th grade. Bova says that none of these students have been accepted at this time and he “seriously doubts” the school will accept very many students of the upper grade levels.

The active wait list for students waiting to gain entry to the school contains 15 students. The remaining 245 students out of the 560 received rejection letters which essentially said, “there’s no way we’re going to get to you,” in Bova’s words.

The deadline for paperwork is Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 4:00 p.m. in the school’s office.
