The Foothill girls’ tennis team won their second playoff game today, which was played against Yucca Valley High School on the opponent’s courts. The final score was 13-5.
Yucca Valley was ranked as sixth in the CIF division, making it a more advanced and challenging team.
“I expected us to win our wild card round, but I did not expect to win this match,” coach Brad McClain said.
Foothill is not ranked yet because this is the first year that they have competed in a CIF division.
McClain was very proud of the team.
“It’s not easy to drive three hours and 20 minutes and play a match, but our team pulled through [and] won and I’m very proud of that,” he said. “The girls were thrilled, [and] proud of themselves [which] they should be.”
All nine possible points for the singles players were won and the other four points came from the doubles players.
McClain said that “no one individually stood out to me […] it was a team effort.”
The team’s next match will be Friday, but the place and opponent is yet to be determined.
McClain knows that his team is well equipped for any match.
“Every round gets tougher [but] I believe the girls are well prepared for the playoffs because all our work in the season has [come] to this.”
