The Foothill girls’ tennis team won their first playoff game against Pomona High School at the Ventura College courts 11-0.
After waiting for two weeks, the players were eager to play their first playoff game.
“Girls played well today [and] were excited,” said coach Brad McClain.
All singles players, sophomore Anna-Kate Levesque, senior Lea Menesklou, and freshman Enkela Qoshlli, won all of their sets 6-0.
The doubles team of sophomore Summer Khouvilay and her younger sister, freshman Sherlyn Khouvilay, also did not let their Pomona opponents win a single game.
The singles players scored five of the 11 points and the doubles teams scored the other six. A few players were missing from the Pomona team, so each player only had to play two sets, with the exception of Qoshlli, who had one unfinished set.
This win means that the girls will move onto the second round of playoffs tomorrow. They will play at Yucca Valley High School at 2 pm.
McClain believes that the girls will have to rely on the things they have learned earlier in the season because there will be little time for making improvements.
“At this stage of the season there isn’t any magic wand,” said McClain, “we’re either good enough or not.”
