2026 Grammys recap: The top four awards
The 68th annual Grammy Awards took place Feb. 1, 2026, eliciting emotions among fans ranging from excitement to contention. At the Grammys, artists and producers were honored for excellence and commercial performance, creating an atmosphere filled with exemplary and diverse creators. Trevor Noah, the host of the awards, exhibited the charisma and humor expected of a comedian, delivering jokes between segments.
The most prominent awards presented included: Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year.
The “Best New Artist” award represents the rise and growth of a new creator. Nominees included KATSEYE, The Marías, Addison Rae, Leon Thomas, Olivia Dean, Alex Warren and Lola Young. Presenter Chappell Roan walked onto the stage as the audience seemed to hold its breath. Though the artists had contrasting personalities and musical expressions, the crowd came together to applaud the winner, Olivia Dean.
After acknowledging her award, she spoke of the importance of her familial courage and hard work as an immigrant. “I’m up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant,” she said. “I’m a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated.
The “Record of the Year” award was one of the most highly anticipated. Eight records were presented: Bad Bunny’s “DtMF“, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild“, Doechii’s “Anxiety“, Billie Eilish’s “WILDFLOWER,”, Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra“, Kendrick Lamar’s “luther ” featuring SZA, Chappell Roan’s “The Subway” and ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’s “APT“. American singer and actor Cher was the presenter of the award. While giving her speech, she was granted the “Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award”, leaving the audience in awe. After a lighthearted acceptance of her own award, Cher announced the winner: “luther” by Kendrick Lamar, featuring SZA.
When accepting the award, Lamar shows his appreciation for the opportunity to create the song and his respect for singer-songwriter Luther Vandross. SZA also shared a few words of gratitude while acknowledging the weight of the current political climate.
Throughout 2025, musical discovery was a distinguishing factor in the careers of many artists. The following songs were listed as the “Song of the Year”: “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga, “APT.” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars, “Anxiety” by Doechii, “DtMF” by Bad Bunny, “Golden” by HUNTR/X:, “luther” by Kendrick Lamar feat. SZA, “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter and “WILDFLOWER” by Billie Eilish. Each song brought a new aspect of music to the vast majority of music consumers. Presenter Carole King revealed “WILDFLOWER” by Billie Eilish as the award winner, which was met with a roar of cheers.
As Billie Eilish, accompanied by her brother, took the stage, she echoed the gratitude spoken by others. However, the goal of her speech seemed to be political, similar to that of other speakers, such as Bad Bunny and Kehlani. “No one is illegal on stolen land,” Eilish said, followed by a profane comment towards Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The “Album of the Year” award is debatably the most prestigious form of recognition granted during the Grammys. Fans speculate on the eight potential winners: “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS,” by Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber’s “SWAG,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Man’s Best Friend,” “Let God Sort Em Out,” by Clipse, Pusha T & Malice, Lady Gaga’s “MAYHEM,” Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX,” Leon Thomas’s “MUTT,” and “CHROMAKOPIA” by Tyler, The Creator. Harry Styles presented the award, opening the envelope to reveal Bad Bunny’s “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” as the winner, leaving the artist visibly shocked.
When accepting the award, Bad Bunny (Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) spoke in Spanish, expressing both his gratitude and political viewpoints. In his earlier award-winning speech, Martínez simply said, “ICE out,” verbalizing his simple yet strong perspective on recent ICE raids. When accepting his second award, Martínez spoke in Spanish as a representation of his standing.
“Puerto Rico, believe me. We are much bigger than 100 x 35, and there is nothing we can’t accomplish,” said Martínez.
The 68th annual Grammy Awards reflected the past year’s musical accomplishments in a lighthearted and celebratory way, providing a promising start to the musical landscape of 2026. From emerging talent like Olivia Dean to household names such as Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar, the Grammys created an environment full of unity while provoking thoughts beyond the stage.
