With the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) boys water polo season coming to a close, star player Aiden Cumming ‘25 contributed largely to the team’s success both inside and out of the pool.
Cumming took interest in being a water polo player in sixth grade, as his friends inspired him to get in the water. As a Dragon, Cumming started on the junior varsity team as a freshman, then moved up to the varsity team as a sophomore. After taking a break which he “didn’t regret,” in his junior year, Cumming had a breakout season during his senior year.
In his final season Cumming made a huge impact on the team as he finished the season with 20 goals scored. His presence on the wing was also outstanding on the defensive end of the pool.
Looking back at his time with Foothill Tech, Cumming stated, “I had so much fun playing with all the guys that have ever been on this team.” Cumming even titled his coach as “The greatest coach [he’s] had.”
Being surrounded by the community that the sport created is one thing Cumming enjoyed about being an athlete. “Sports bring the best friendships,” Cumming stated, “You can be around people all day in class and at breaks but nothing brings you more together like playing a sport.”
The feeling of accomplishment that surrounded the sport was also very valuable to Cumming. Cumming stated, “even on bad days when I wasn’t feeling the greatest and didn’t want to go swim a 1000-yard warm up, I still did, and I always felt amazing.”
After high school, Cumming plans on completing the fire technology and emergency medical technician programs at Oxnard College in hopes of being a part of the Ventura County Fire Hand Crew.
