At the conclusion of the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls golf team season, five players entered a two day, League Finals tournament beginning on Oct. 15, 2024 at Olivas Links, and finishing on Oct. 17, 2024 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club. This tournament tested the girls’ individual abilities, as they were aiming to qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) individual matches and help them advance through the postseason.
The team showcased numerous standout performances from its athletes. Audrey Yoong ‘26 delivered an impressive performance, shooting an overall score of 80 across the two days. This effort earned her second place in league, securing her position in the CIF postseason and highlighting her dominance in the league. Yoong however would fall short of first place by only seven strokes. On the first day of the tournament, she posted an impressive score of 39, followed by a solid 41 on the following day.
Yoong’s teammate, Bella Baum ‘26 also performed well, finishing in fourth place with a total score of 98. Baum’s strength on the course was evident, marking one of her best performances of the season. Baum demonstrated her skill and determination even as the season drew to a close, coming up just shy of earning a position in the postseason.
Another Foothill Tech athlete participating, Kylie Ho ‘26, faced adversity during the tournament but showed immense perseverance in the face of tough competition. Despite struggling with her performance and posting a score of 131, placing her in 13th position overall, Ho maintained a positive outlook. She finished the season with her head held high, already looking forward to improving next year.
Ho commented on the supportive atmosphere fostered by her teammates, saying, “Individually, I think I could’ve done better. Tuesday was one of my worst scores of the season … but the girls were really sweet, and I had a good time playing with them. They were great.”
Ultimately, the Dragons made a strong impression and solidified their presence within the league, finishing with an impressive 3-1 standing. While Yoong was the only team member to qualify for the CIF postseason, she carries the hopes of her teammates with her, aiming to go far and represent the team as they cheer her on.
Yoong will compete again in CIF Southern Section at Los Robles Greens on Oct. 30, 2024.
