Foothill Technology High School’s (Foothill Tech) annual Club Rush took over the quad on Sept. 13, 2024, as students explored the diverse range of clubs offered on campus. From Pickleball Club to Spirit Club, the event displayed the many opportunities available for students to get involved, connect with peers and pursue their passions.
As soon as fourth period ended, students flooded the quad, greeted by an array of tables representing a wide variety of clubs and interest groups. Club representatives were waiting patiently, eager to provide students with information about their respective groups.
This year, there were a plethora of new clubs which expanded the event throughout the entire quad, including the area between the E and F buildings on campus. Some of the clubs presented at the event were the Be Heard Club, Garden Club, Overcome Club, Chess Club and Hiking Club.
Each club’s booth was decorated to attract interest for students attending Club Rush. Every booth was decorated with posters and information relating to the specific clubs, and sweet treats or gifts were offered to those who decided to join.
Students could join through sign up sheets or digitally via the Remind app, making it easy for them to stay connected and involved throughout the school year.
This year, Foothill Tech made an effort to encourage the youngest of Dragons to get more involved with their school community.
“I like what they implemented with FIRE (Foothill Intervention, Reinforcement and Enrichment), like how [freshmen] have to visit five different clubs … I think it’s a way for students to come out of their comfort zone and meet other people,” Josh Gelman ‘26 said.
Club Rush provided the opportunity for new students to become more involved in a variety of activities. Addi Fallon ‘25 said her favorite part of Club Rush was, “seeing all the freshmen walk around and join new clubs because it’s all brand new to them.”
While meandering through the various club booths, many students had found a few clubs that they were interested in joining. Lillian Walsh ‘28 mentioned how she liked the Red Cross Club because, “It’s cool how much students can do for people.”
Club Rush appeared to be a popular attraction for Dragons as they begin a new school year. Students showed great interest in the Foothill Tech clubs as many groups were able to completely fill their sign up sheets. Now that students have taken the initial step by joining a club, the next step is to sit back and wait patiently for their first meeting.
