On the afternoon of Sept. 5, 2024, the Foothill Technology High School (Foothill Tech) girls golf team competed in the Ventura City Cup on Foothill Tech’s home turf, Olivas Links. By the end of the match, Foothill Tech’s team score of 274 took third place behind St. Bonaventure High School (Bonnie) and Ventura High School (Ventura).
Despite the team’s placing, there were still notable standout performances of the athletes that competed. Audrey Yoong ‘26 put forth an impressive effort, shooting two over par to contribute a score of 38 for the Dragons. This score also allowed her to take the first-place individual title in the tournament.
Behind Yoong, Bella Baum ‘26 shot a score of 50, Bella Bradley ‘27 finished with a score of 58, Kylie Ho ‘26 with a score of 63 and Brooklyn Brown ‘28 topped it off with a score of 65.
Baum spoke on her individual performance stating, “Overall, I was satisfied with performance … though there is always something that can be improved upon … I have learned that golf is more mental than I had realized prior to high school.”
These compiled scores from the five athletes added up to a total of 274 earning the Dragons third place behind Bonnie’s score of 252 and Ventura’s score of 229.
Baum reflected on the team’s overall performance and goals for the season, stating, “This is a young team that is showing improvement every match … we all share the goal to improve not only in our ability to play golf, but also to create friendships with one another.”
Their next match will be against Santa Paula High School on Sept. 10 at Saticoy Regional Golf Course where Foothill Tech looks to improve.
